Joana Vasconcelos is a Portuguese visual artist, born in Paris in 1971.


She is known for her monumental sculptures that incorporate everyday objects, with humor and irony.


She was the first woman to exhibit at the Palace of Versailles in 2012 and represented Portugal at the 2013 Venice Biennale.


He began his career in 1994, having to date carried out more than 500 exhibitions, permanent installations and public works of art in 35 countries.


Studied Design and Jewelry at ArCo - Center for Art & Visual Communication.


His first solo exhibition was in 1997 at Galeria Pedro Oliveira, in Porto.


Joana Vasconcelos has several artistic influences, such as the arts and crafts movement, surrealism and pop art, also drawing inspiration from everyday objects, such as plastic cutlery, sanitary pads, tiles and crochet.


By using these everyday objects to create sculptures, she aims to question the status of women, consumer society and collective identity.
